CARAMEL POPCORN LIONS

  • Method
  1. Step 1

Line eight holes of a 1/3 cup-capacity muffin pan with paper cases.

  2. Step 2

Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add 2 pieces of corn. Oil is hot enough when corn turns slowly in a circle. Add remaining corn. Cover with a tight-fitting lid. Shake saucepan gently when corn starts to pop. Remove from heat when corn stops popping. Pour into a large heatproof bowl. Discard unpopped corn.

  3. Step 3

Place golden syrup, sugar and butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring, for 3 to 4 minutes or until sugar dissolves (don’t boil). Bring to the boil. Boil for 4 minutes or until golden.

  4. Step 4

Working quickly, pour caramel mixture over popcorn. Stir to coat. Divide mixture between paper cases. Using the back of a spoon, press down to flatten tops slightly. Set aside to cool.

  5. Step 5

Reserve 8 chocolate melts. Place remaining melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high (100%) for 1 to 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds, or until melted and smooth. Spread a little melted chocolate on 1 side of 2 Lifesavers. Using picture above as a guide, position Lifesavers on 1 popcorn mixture to form eyes. Top Lifesavers with a little chocolate and position Smarties on top. Spread flat side of 1 reserved melt with a little chocolate. Position in the centre below eyes.

  6. Step 6

Cut 1 piece of licorice into 8 x 5mm triangles for noses. Cut remaining licorice pieces in half lengthways. Leaving 5mm at 1 end of 1 piece, cut lengthways into 3 even strips. Repeat with remaining licorice pieces. Spread 2 uncut ends with a little melted chocolate. Slide under chocolate melt to form whiskers. Spread 1 triangle with a little remaining chocolate. Position triangle on chocolate melt to form a nose.

  7. Step 7

Draw eyes on Smarties and mouth on melt. Repeat with remaining popcorn mixtures, melted chocolate, Lifesavers, Smarties, melts, licorice and icing. Set aside to set. Serve.

Hawaiian pizza pops

Hawaiian Pizza PopsKIDS PARTY FOOD IDEAS

Please note I first found the fantastic idea for Hawaiian pizza pops on taste.com when I was searching for fun, creative yet simple kids party food ideas for my son’s birthday party. It is not my own personal recipe but I have made it and it went down a treat.!

Don’t forget it is very “In trend” at the moment to present your party food with a label to say what it is, ok so it might be obvious what it is but heck that is besides the point it’s all about the look so label your party food if you wish to present a very modern birthday party. At One Stop Kids Party Shop we sell the chalkboard signs and chalkboard labels that are very fashionable at the moment.

INGREDIENTS

Pizza dough

METHOD

  1. Step 1

To make pizza dough, combine the water, yeast and sugar in a jug. Stand for 10 minutes or until foamy. Sift flour and salt into a bowl. Make a well in the centre. Add the yeast mixture and oil. Stir until a soft dough forms.

  2. Step 2

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes or until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl. Cover and set aside to prove for 40 minutes or until the dough doubles in size.

  3. Step 3

Combine the pineapple, ham and spring onion in a bowl. Season.

  4. Step 4

Preheat oven to 200C. Punch down dough. Knead until smooth. Roll out to a 42cm x 22cm rectangle. Spread with pizza sauce. Sprinkle with mozzarella. Top with the pineapple mixture, leaving a 2cm border at 1 long side. Starting from the other long side, roll up to form a log. Trim ends. Cut into 24 slices, about 1.5cm thick. Place slices on 2 lined trays, with room for spreading. Insert soaked bamboo skewers into each slice. Spray with oil.

  5. Step 5

Bake, swapping trays halfway through cooking, for 14-15 minutes or until golden and crisp. Cool slightly.

RAINBOW JELLY CUPS

You can not go wrong with the infamous rainbow party jelly cups. Honestly my sister and I have the rainbow jelly cups at every party we put on for our kids and they are super super popular, in fact we always make extra as 1 rainbow jelly cup never seems to be enough!!
TIP: Make your rainbow Jelly cups the day before the party.

Ingredients:
MIN of 4 different flavoured Jelly packs
Rainbow plastic Shot Glasses (Which we sell here at One Stop Kids Party Shop)
1 Pack of snakes (If desired Not compulsory).
Water

Method

  • Chose which colour jelly you are going to have as your first layer and make it up according to the instructions on the pack. Prepare the jelly in a pouring jug for ease later.
  • Once your first jelly is ready pour a small amount of the liquid jelly mix into each shot glass, then place the shot glasses in the fridge to set.
  • Once your first layer is set, make your next layer of jelly according to the packet instructions and then pour a small amount of the next colour on top of your first colour which is now set so the liquid of the next jelly colour will simply sit on top of your first colour it wont mix with it.
  • Place the jelly’s back into the fridge and wait till your second layer has set.
  • Continue this process until you have used all your jelly colours.
  • If you decide to use snakes, cut your snakes in half and when preparing your last layer of jelly put the lolly snake into the liquid jelly of the last layer and put in the fridge to set, the snake will set inside the top layer of the jelly cup.

MARSHMALLOW STICKS

Marshmallow Sticks are so simple and Easy we just love them, they look pretty and exciting which is the type of food you want to have on your kids party table and they are just so quick to make.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 large pack of Pink & White Marshmallows, (Don’t go for the cheap variety there is a difference spend a dollar more and get the nice branded Marshmallows, after all if you are going to go to this effort make sure you don’t get dried up crunchy Marshmallows which we have noticed some of the cheaper brands are like this).
  • 1 pack of white icing sugar
  • Butter or Margarine
  • 1 pack of 100’s & 1000’s
  • 1 pack of rainbow dots
  • 1 girly mix colours & shapes 100’s & 1000’s
  • These different types of 100’s & 1000’s as seen in the image can all be purchased from Woolworths and Coles, I’m not sure about Aldi I will have a look next time I’m there.
  • 1 pack of cake pop sticks

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl make up your white icing sugar, use mostly butter and a drop of water to make a nice thick icing mixture, only use 1 pinch of water at a time this is very important or you may have to start all over again, you do not want a runny icing mixture you want a nice thick one.
  2. Open your cake pop sticks and marshmallows and push 1 marshmallows on top of each cake pop.
  3. Using a paper plate or normal plate I personally like using paper plates so I have less washing up at the end, open up your first type of sprinkles and spread them out onto your plate.
  4. Divide the Marshmallow sticks up evenly and using your first division of sticks, spread some of the icing mixture on top of each of the marshmallows.
  5. Dip each of the Marshmallow sticks from your first division on top of your first plate of sprinkles, place in a cup or cake pop stand to dry.
  6. Repeat this process  with each of your sprinkle variety’s.
  7. Depending on the theme and colour scheme of your party chose how you are going to present the marshmallow sticks on the table. If you are having a rainbow birthday party then perhaps use 3 or 4 different coloured plastic or paper cups and divide the sticks into each cup, if your having a fairy birthday party you may wish to present the sticks in only purple, pink and white cups for example.
