Balloon Pinata Games/Alternative’s To The Traditional Pinata

Kids Party Games

You might be thinking of bypassing the kids party games this year, but read on I think we will have you changing your mind pretty quickly. Party games make kids birthday parties come to life! Party children anticipate the birthday games as a key part of the birthday party fun. Kids activities range from musical chairs to pass the parcel to pin the tail on the donkey – all wonderfully fun games for your children’s party. I recently went to a party at the park it was very basic which is fine but the kids were asking towards the middle of the party are we going to play any party games? The poor mum was not sure what to say other than “Um no just thought you could play in the park” The kids were disappointed. It really does not have to be anything elaborate or expensive just a couple of cheap games will keep the kids happy. Below we have some alternative ideas for the traditional expensive bash pinata.

Water Balloon Pinata

  • What You Will Need:
  • Several 25 to 30cm latex balloons
  • Strong piece of string/fishing line.
  • two trees or two posts 3 to 4 metres  apart.
  • plastic cricket bat or baseball bat or something of this nature

HOW TO SET UP

  • Fill each balloon with water and tye the top
  • Hang a 4-5 metre piece of very strong string from one tree to another or fence post etc whatever you have available
  • Attach each balloon to the string or fishing line.
  • You will have a rainbow garland now as well as a fun party game.
  • If you do not have suitable trees or post to hang the balloons perhaps you have a swing set or monkey bars to hang the balloons from instead, or the clothes line you might have to get creative.
  • HOW TO PLAY
  • Just like you would with a standard pinata, get the kids to all line up, get them choose a balloon and that is there balloon to pop, once they have poped their balloon then that game is over for them. If you wish it to last longer maybe allocate  2 or 3 balloons per Child.
  • TIP: This game is best played in summer or spring as the kids will get wet! If you plan to have this as one of your party games put a note on the invitation to bring your swimmers, towel or change of clothes as some of the games involve water. If your party is going to be in winter please read about our next kids party game for an alternative to a water pinta.

THE METHOD/ASSEMBLY

  • Fill the balloons with the sparkly confetti, the party favour toys and some lollies as seen in the image above.
  • Hang the balloons from your chosen method.
  • Get the kids to choose a balloon and that is there balloon, they can either try and bash it till it pops open, or stick it with a pin, then the contents of that balloon belongs to them once it pops. Make sure you have some small craft bags or party bags on hand for the kids to put the contents of their balloon into.
  • Attach the filled balloons to the piece of string if you are making a balloon garland pinata, or hang a long piece of string to each balloon if you plan to hang them individually from a tree branch, play equipment, clothes line or so forth.

HOW TO PLAY

  • Get the kids to choose a balloon and that is there balloon, they can either try and bash it till it pops open, or stick it with a pin, then the contents of that balloon belongs to them once it pops. Make sure you have some small craft bags or party bags on hand for the kids to put the contents of their balloon into.
  • TIP: Make it really clear before the game starts that each child only gets to pop 1 balloon or how many balloons it is that you have allocated per child. Explain that once their  balloon/balloons are popped they need to collect the contents into their bag and go and sit down. Make it clear that unless it is your turn you need to stay seated and watch the child that is taking a turn. It is important to establish the rules of the game first so that every child gets to take a turn and everyone enjoys there will always be one over excited child or more that could possibly ruin it for others don’t be afraid to assert yourself.
